Every one!  Hi!  Two posts in just as many days.  Can you tell I’m getting the hang of doing stuff while little one naps?  Speaking of doing stuff, I ran a race (the second one) since he was born today.  It was the Lake Wehrspann 2miler.  One I do every year it seems.  It was baby’s first race last year (I was just a few weeks pregnant) and I did it again this year.  I beat my old time too!  The weather was perfect today.  Warm with just a little cool breeze.  Started at 7:40 am and it’s just a quick out and back with not too many hills.  It does start on a downhill which means it ends on an uphill.  And, man, I sprinted up that uphill at the end.  I told myself it was because I wanted to finish strong and get a good time and I’d seen the clock at 19:xx.  But really, I didn’t want to let the gal that had just passed me to beat me!  And I didn’t!  I forgot how good it feels to pass someone in a race.  Horrible, I know!  But I finished in 20:07 10:04AP, last years time was 22:20 or something like that.  But, most importantly, I didn’t walk a single step!  My friend Ann signed up for the 10K impromptu style the day before and ran it in a pr.  So, yay for her.  I didn’t get to see her finish though, because I had to relieve my husband of baby duties so he could get to work on time.  Baby and I went to the gym for pilates, another killer session.  Great start to the day.  Tonight we’re headed over to John and Ann’s for some pot-roast.  It’s nice not to have to worry about dinner.  Just rest and relax until hubby comes home.  Our house is in upheaval because we’ve had the floors redone in our dinning room and kitchen and painted a really big wall in our house during that time.  We still have some touching up to do on that wall so our living room furniture is crammed Tetris style in the corner of the room.  Makes playing with baby interesting.  At least he’s not too mobile, yet.

Here’s a few photos:

Same race last year with Wende, sad, she lives way out in California now.  :(

First race post baby, a 4mile on the 3rd of July, second race out of state if you count the one in Council Bluffs just a 1/2 hr drive from my house:

Mrs. Yardley, Me, cute baby, Susan.  Great times.  Following this Susan and I had shakes from steak and shake, so good.  Wish we had one here.

Today:  Ignore the hideous hair/face/overall appearance of me, focus on the cute baby:

He’s still in his pjs and I’ve already ran a race, what’s up with that?

So, it’s been a while.

I’m still here.  Still lurking all of your blogs.  No worries.  Raising this baby.  He’s 4 months old already!  He’s been cranky/fussy more so than usual lately.  Keep calling the doctor, being the 1st time mom that I am, and she says that is sounds like teething.  But no teeth yet.  And, from what I hear it can take months for those teeth to show.  I hope he’s not fussy for months.  He’s such a good baby otherwise.  As evidenced by the following photos:

4 months, obvs.

Cute, huh?  We think so.  We think he’s quite the keeper!  See that second to last photo?  He’s been doing “happy baby” pose for the last week.  LOVES it.  My little yogi baby.  Must have known that I did prenatal yoga!

On the running/working out front.  I’ve been doing pilates 2x/week and running when I can.  It’s gotten a lot better since I’ve been able to put William into child care for 2 hours/day at the gym.  SO nice.  I do pilates on the reformer, like so:

(that’s obviously not my picture).  But I love the reformer.  It’s completely different from the mat classes.  I get such a good workout.  Sweating!  Buckets!  I’ve lost 7 inches and about 9 pounds (mind you I’m loosing baby weight and nursing too) from the end of May to the end of July.  8 weeks.  That’s 16 sessions.  That’s it!  AND!  The most exciting of all for me, I can not only touch my toes, I can touch the floor with my fingers and palms!  That’s So cool!  So cool!  I’ve never been able to touch my toes in. my. life.

I haven’t been running as much this week because I didn’t feel well last week but I’m going to get back to it.   It’s slow, but I try for at least 1/2 hr to 45minutes/session.  I don’t think I’ve left William alone in the daycare for the full 2 hours yet!  I’m planning on doing my yearly 2 mile race.  Last year and the year before I did it in 22minutes.  The year before that it was 19:20, I think.  I’m hoping for 22minutes ish again.  But we’ll see.  It’s been super hot out and I haven’t run outside in quite a while.  Wish me luck.  I’ll let you know how it goes!

On the sewing front, I made this:264025_10150286588995813_719835812_9270925_2867442_n

He loves his “lovie”.

A mini monkey one:

I think we’re giving him an unnatural love of fleece.  Oh well.

Getting back to exercise.

I got the okay to work out at 6 weeks.  My baby is 9 weeks old now.  Attempting to fit in runs and pilates classes with my hubby’s work schedule.  At two weeks after returning to running I was able to run 30 minutes without stopping.  That is huge.  I think that walking throughout pregnancy really did help me keep some fitness.  I’m pretty positive about starting over.  I felt guilty leaving the little man the first few times I did but I’m getting better.  Hubby’s really helping.  He never minds sticking with the kiddo while I work out.  Sometimes we’d let me go to the gym and then he’d go out for a bike ride when I got home.  Working out well so far.

Here’s a few pics.  Sorry so short, I can hear him crying upstairs, gotta go rescue the hubby.

Happy Running!  I have been lurking your blogs, but not much time to comment, or it’s hard to comment one handed :)  this baby thing is time consuming!

I’m back!  Not really working out hard core yet, but trying to go out for walks here and there.  Enjoying time with my baby.  Yes, BABY!  I did have a baby boy April 3rd at 1:48am.  It was his due date and it was perfect.  Hard but totally worth it.  I remember thinking, after he was crying and okay, “This is the best thing I’ve ever done!”.  I immediately wanted to do it again.  The 9 months of waiting and wondering and sacrifice, even the diabetes was TOTALLY worth it!  I am so in love with my little boy.

Here’s Will:

Okay, off to walk around the neighborhood!

5 weeks and counting!

Time has been flying by!  I’m 35 weeks and 3 days today.  I had a scare at 33 weeks and ended up in the hospital overnight for contractions, thankfully they didn’t amount to anything.  But it was a good drill.  At least we know how to get to the hospital without loosing it.  I’ve had a few baby showers.  One I went to St Louis for, my hubby’s family is all down there.  Wonderful!  They are all so nice, makes me kinda want to live down there.  Had a shower with girls from work.  Small, casual, and fun to just hang out.  I even cheated and took a bite of cake after dinner.  Mmmm.  Can’t wait to be non diabetic anymore!  But the diabetes has taught me portion control and a more scheduled eating pattern.  I haven’t gained a pound since I got diagnosed with the GD.  So that’s good.  I’m also continuing to walk on my days off.  Usually 1/2 hr, usually 1.5 miles or so.  Sometimes I’m daring and go for 2 miles.  The last few times I’ve walked I’ve tried a little light jogging (we’re talking 4.0-5.0) only for about a minute to four minutes.  But it feels SO good.  Here’s some pictures cause I know you care.

From the St Louis Shower

Me, very excited apparently about the new umbrella stroller.

From the hospital:

It was Valentine’s morning when the hubby showed up at 7am with this new guy.

That’s the crib bumpers and going home outfit I’ve made him.  Cute, no?  The hat in the outfit was one of the first baby gifts, maybe the first?, he received.  I thought it went well with the aqua on the tie fabric.

Happy Weekend!

Tuesday, January 18

Big sigh.

Good news and bad news.

Good:  I’m 29 weeks along and still feeling good.  Getting crafty.  I just finished up an elephant banner for bambino’s room and an elephant mobile.  Both of which took me just a few hours combined.

I got the idea from here.  I followed the directions and used leftover fabric that wasn’t too girlie.  The gray elephant on the left is made from scraps of what I’m going to make the bedding out of.  Cute, right?

I also tried to copy an etsy mobile.

P1010001 - Copy

So I guess the theme is elephants!  Love it.  The mobile is a little home made and rough but I like it just the same.   And because I’m cheap I did it all for under $5.  But I like the fact that little bambino gets something home made from me and it passed the time and let me stall on putting away my laundry.

So today I got the call that I was dreading.  I have gestational diabetes.  And, even though I’m a nurse, I haven’t studied the prenatal stuff in SO long.  I bawled on the phone to my dr’s nurse.  I’ll have to see a perinatologist and start logging my sugars and hopefully control it though diet for the remainder of the pregnancy.  I kinda thought this test would be a joke.  I had no idea I’d fail it.  I feel like I did something wrong.  But I know I didn’t, it just happens.  I think that my mom may have had this too having 9+ pound babies at term.  I think she just wasn’t screened for it.  We’ll see what this new doctor says.  I’ll do what I need to to keep bambino as healthy as possible.  And, I’m a stickler for rules so I’m pretty confident I can figure this out if I just do what they tell me.

Walked yesterday on the treadmill in the first time in forever.  For some reason I’ve been having a really bad allergic reaction to something in a friend’s house (asthma, cough, wheezing, trouble breathing, shortness of breath, yada yada yada) for at least 36 hrs after going over there for about 4.  I took my new inhaler (which I was prescribed the last time I had really bad asthma from going over to their house) three times in 12 hours.  So you know I felt crummy cause I hate using that thing!  Hate!   I should go back today but I’m tied to the house cause I’m pretty sure this new doctor will call on my home phone and I do NOT want to miss it!  I think I’ll try this new prenatal yoga dvd my yoga instructor let me borrow.

Happy Tuesday everyone.  Still reading your blogs, although it’s mostly living vicariously through your running adventures.  Soon I’ll be back, Soon!
